As the birthday of William Booth (The Salvation Army`s first general) approaches, The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territorial Headquarters is pleased to introduce a new web site for our George Scott Railton Heritage Centre.

This centre is much more than a museum. It is a study centre, a repository for cuttings, historic documents and photos, and a resource for researchers into all things "Army" in this territory. It is also the main archive for all official papers.
You will find much more information at our new web, located at:

Be sure to check out the interactive timeline feature, where you can learn about the early days of the Army here and elsewhere, and about the beginnings of many of its programs.

George Scott Railton was one of the unique personalities who helped form the character of The Salvation Army. The son of a Methodist minister, he lost both parents to fever when he was 15. The boy worked on his own in London, England, seeking something that was more like the old Methodism of John Wesley. Providentially, he found the Christian Mission work of William Booth and later became the first commissioner of the Salvation Army.

Next to the Founder and the Army Mother, Railton was the leading personal force in the period from 1872 to 1880, and framed many of the Movement's first doctrines.

This year, The Army celebrates 120 years of ministry in Canada. Throughout its history, The Army has been blessed with countless opportunities to fulfill its ministry, bringing physicial and spiritual healing to Canadians of all walks of life.
